Data protection policy
You can sign up to participate in studies on metabolism, brain, and behaviour at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Metabolism Research with our registration form.
By submitting the completed form, you give us your consent to store and process your personal data in the volunteer participant database of the Max-Planck-Institute for Metabolism Research.
Introduction
With this data protection policy, we want to inform you about what personal data we collect during registration, the purposes for which we use the data, and the rights you have in this context.

Your Rights When Registering for Study Participation
You have the right to information, correction, restriction, data transfer, deletion, and revocation regarding the processing of your personal data. Please contact us in writing or by email for this. You may also request the deletion of your data. Data that we cannot or are not allowed to delete, for example due to legal retention obligations, will be strictly restricted in processing. Such data will only be accessible to a few employees who are directly involved in data collection. These persons are subject to confidentiality and are obliged to observe data protection.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority. For the Max Planck Society, this is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision, PO Box 606, 91511 Ansbach; email: poststelle@lda.bayern.de; phone: 0981 180093 800.
Purposes of Processing
Your personal data will be used exclusively for contacting you and planning studies within the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research.
Data Processing
The registration form contains only questions necessary for the feasibility of our studies, mainly information about you. Your contact details, including your name, are stored separately from your other information. The association between your name and this information is done through a coding number (Code-ID). Your personal data is thus pseudonymised. Only a small group of employees has access to your contact details, the employees responsible for recruiting participants. They are obligated to confidentiality and to comply with data protection. For scientific evaluation in the context of a possible future study, only pseudonymised data can be accessed, never personal data. Without the connection between the Code-IDs and your person, the anonymity of your data is ensured with respect to third parties. Your data will be treated with confidentiality and will not be shared with third parties unless you explicitly agree to this with a separate signature within the framework of a study. The transfer of your data from this internet connection to our database is carried out via an encrypted connection corresponding to the state of the art.
Categories of stored data
The following categories of personal data are stored for contact purposes: last name, first name, street/house number, city, postal code, phone numbers, email.
The following categories of personal data are stored for study planning purposes: date of birth, language skills, gender, handedness, weight, height, health status, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suitability.
Storage Duration
The data is stored as long as
- the purpose of the storage is fulfilled
- the data subject requests deletion
Revocation of Consent
You can revoke your consent to the use of your data at any time. Please write an email to our study office (studienbuero@sf.mpg.de). Your revocation of consent does not affect the legality of the processing carried out until the revocation.
Data Security
We use technical and organisational measures to protect the personal data and information we use against accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction, or unauthorised access. Our security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments.
